As we draw to the end of another great season for PPYCC the club will host its AGM and Awards Presentation evening on Saturday 1st November. The venue will be Knoyle Hall, Knoyle Road, Brighton (just around the corner from the track) and will start at 6.45pm.
It would be great to see all members (and families) attend and celebrate our successes from the 2014 season. The evening will include some surprise activities and provide an opportunity for club members to start planning activities for the winter and next season!
See you on the 1st November!
We are arranging a trip to the famous Gent 6 Day Racing event and the World Cup Cyclocross race that is being held at the classic venue of Koksijde. Both are in Belgium and both are very accessible from Calais.
This will be an exciting over night trip, leaving early on Saturday morning, 22nd November and returning early evening on the Sunday, 23rd November.
We are planning to hire a coach (including tunnel) that will take 30 people, book rooms at the Holiday Inn in Gent, and purchase tickets for the Velodrome for the evening session. We will be able to gain entry on the gate for the Cyclocross race on the day.
We could then also probably squeeze in a trip to the Menin Gate in Ypres on the way home for some cultural perspective (it’s worth seeing).
It sounds like a lot of travelling, but it isn’t. Koksijde is about an hour from Calais (50km) and the Koksijde to Gent journey (110km) takes around 1.5 hours. We think the total cost, depending on how many people wish to go, will be around £100 per person based upon two people sharing a room (the assumption being these would be family groups or pairs).
Roughly speaking the pricing is based upon the following:
- Coach per person: £50.00
- Entry to Cyclcross: €15.00 (approx £12.00)
- Entry to Gent Velodrome: €20 (approx £15.00)
- Holiday Inn (room sleeps 2, some sleep 3, including breakfast):€69.00 (approx £54.00) for the room (+€2.50 per person)
Initially we are looking for a show of hands so in the first instance if you are interested could you please email Alan on email@example.com by 4th October, so that we can make sure we make bookings in good time.
I took club members, Freddie and Frank Newman, last year and they throughly enjoyed it. One of the highlights being that we stood in the queue behind, the great, Eddie Merckx on the way in to the Gent Velodrome on the Saturday night!.
Here are a couple of pictures from that weekend:
Dear PPYCC members,
As many of you will know we have been struggling with storage space at the track for a while which amongst other things makes removing and placing bikes in the racks very difficult and can also result in damage the bikes. Furthermore, we are currently looking at the feasibility of of buying additional bikes to meet the growing demands from our increased membership which if successful would only exasperate our storage problems.
Consequently, we are looking into the feasibility of obtaining additional storage space and creating a secure office and workshop. We are in the very early stages of evaluating the feasibility and costs of this development and are keen to find out if there are people within the club that may have skills or contacts that could assist us.
In particular we would be keen to hear from anyone that has:
- experience of writing and submitting planning applications
- steel fabrication skills and could assist in adding secure windows and a door to one of the existing containers
- access to cheap windows, patio doors and/or regular doors
- can help in repainting existing containers
- can supply preparation and painting materials, including suitable paint
- contacts in the container supply and delivery business i.e. cheap containers
- access to a crane capable of re-positioning one of our existing containers
I must stress that we are currently only looking at feasibility and trying to determine what would be involved and the likely cost.
If you do think you can assist in this project we would love to hear from you, so please contact Andy Hemens for more information…
