Many of you will be familiar with our annual end of season event, Pedal in Preston Park. Keeping with tradition, this year’s will be on the last Saturday of the PPYCC season, 31st October.
Please keep the day clear so that you can come along to join in the fun. Exclusive PPYCC and VCJubilee session will be 10:30 to 12:00, but PPYCC riders (and parents, siblings, friends, and neighbours) can continue riding laps through the afternoon until the close at 17:00.
Previous years have had cumulutive challenges, but this year we’re breaking with THAT tradition and have an individual or team challenge of 137 laps of the track (43 miles). Do you think you could do that on your own? Perhaps you could attempt it in a small team …
Here’s the pedal website for more information: http://www.pedalinprestonpark.co.uk/index.html
A few quick reminders ahead of tomorrow’s Inner Ring session (09:00 to 10:30):
- Check tyre pressures are fully inflated before settting out (we seem to be spending a lot of time pumping up tyres at the start of the session recently, when we could be riding):
- Bring water and a snack, and apply sunscreen (it’s going to be HOT!):
- Arrive in plenty of time to sign in BEFORE the 09:00 start (it’s important that all riders are there for the bike check and warm up at the start of the session).
Thank you to all the riders and parents who came with us to Cyclopark on Saturday. It was a hugely successful trip, which we plan to repeat a few times this season. Watch this space for more details!
There were actually 4 PPYCC Coaches there – the other three became photographers at this point!
Please note that there will be NO sessions at the Preston Park cycle track this coming Saturday (16th May).
Instead, we have a session from 09:00 to 12:00 at Cyclopark in Kent. Please book with Kim (email@example.com) if you haven’t already reserved a place.
We have Circuit E of the closed road circuit booked for our exclusive use (details of road circuit here: http://www.cyclopark.com/activities-prices/cycloterrain/), as well as free access to the mountain bike trails. Therefore, please bring both road and mountain bike if you have them, as both Inner and Outer Ring will be riding and having coaching sessions for the full three hours, but we will swap riders between disciplines where possible.
Cyclopark has excellent facilities for all the family. There is a cafe, children’s playground, skatepark, and free showers and changing rooms. It is located just off the A2 near Gravesend. Please note that you need £1 for car parking. We will be charging the usual members fee for the session to cover the cost of booking the circuit.

Inner Ring (08:45 to 10:30) session this morning is on.
There is light rain in the air in Brighton, but it is forecast to stop. PLEASE bring waterproofs, plenty of layers of clothing, and gloves though.
Tomorrow’s Inner Ring session (09:00 to 10:30 for 8 to 12 year olds) will concentrate on cornering. We will also be welcoming some prospective and new members.
Please ensure you get to the cycle track around 08:45 for sign on. We have been delayed starting the sessions in previous weeks due to lots of late-comers – we START the session at 09:00 prompt so you need to be signed in and ready with bike, drink, snack, and spare clothing ahead of that please.
Also please check your bike BEFORE you set off to the track. We have been additionally delayed by riders arriving with poorly inflated tyres, and then having to wait betweeen the bike check and warm up whilst they pump their tyres up.
The weather is looking a bit changeable tomorrow. Bring waterproofs and plenty of layers, including full finger gloves (you can always take a layer off if you get too warm, but we can’t conjure up extra clothing if you get chilled). Keep an eye on the website and facebook page – if we decide to cancel the session due to rain, we will post here by 08:00am.
The weather forecast for Preston Manor in Brighton this morning is not looking good. It’s dry here at the moment, but some rain is likely later.
We won’t cancel this morning’s Distance Challenge, but PLEASE BRING WARM LAYERS AND WATERPROOFS as we may have to wait for some heavy showers to pass (and we can’t shelter in the Grandstand).
Forecast here if you want to check yourself: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/forecast/gcpchz5wf
We’re doing another Distance Challenge this Saturday (11 April). Inner Ring (under 12s) starts at 9am and Outer Ring (over 12s) at 10:30.
Please note that it can still be chilly first thing in the morning, so Inner Ring riders please bring plenty of layers to wear, especially as there will be a bit of standing around during the session (we can’t have you all riding at the same time). You can always take that extra jersey or leg warmers off when you’re about to start your timed laps.
See you at the track!
We’re back to our Saturday morning sessions at the track this Saturday (7 March). Inner Ring (under 12s) starts at 9am and Outer Ring (over 12s) at 10:30.
It’s Distance Challenge this week, to provide your benchmark time for solo ride of a set number of laps for your age group. We’ll be repeating the Distance Challenge several times through the season so that you can compare your times and track progress.
See you at the track!
Bookings are already being received for this final winter event. To secure your place book early!
Our LAST indoor training session FOR THIS WINTER – is this coming Saturday (28 February). Book your place by 2pm Friday (see below for how to do this).
Arrive at 16.00 to set up for a 16.15 start, the session will run until 17.15 allowing 15 minutes for packing up the pavilion. The pavilion is situated beside Preston Park velodrome and accessed from Preston Drove. Their is a charge of £4 members / £5 adults and non-members.
Please book a place with Mark, so that we can manage space and ensure enough bookings to cover costs, by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
It is absolutely essential that you do not bring a dirty bike into the pavilion so please clean your bike in advance (there was a penalty for a rider that brought a dirty bike in at a previous session). Also you must have a cover to place between your trainer and the pavilion carpet. This could be a cheap mat, a carpet off-cut, or at the very least a bath towel. Also please clean your shoes on the door mat upon entry.
We have invested in the Suffer Fest video training programmes and new projector equipment to allow this to happen so please come and attend. We even have a proper screen now instead of the sheet, so it’s really well set up. We also get the enormous industrial fan out to keep riders from over-heating
If you want an idea of what happens (and wish to see what the new screen and big fan look like), here’s a video of a previous session: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1kLV5sP-tM
