For those riders who want to improve their circuit racing skills and fitness or thinking of giving circuit racing a go for the first time the Angmering Youth Race Series are perfect.
The races are run weekly on Monday evenings at Angmering Raceway go-kart circuit just past Worthing off the A27. The circuit is 300m long and with lots of corners not only great fun but fantastic for developing and improving skills.
The events are very friendly and informal and each evening is comprised of 4-5 short races : scratch race, time trial, handicap. Sign on is 6:00pm onwards with warm up time on the circuit before racing starts at 6:30pm.
Previous seasons have seen 20 riders attending split between Youth A/B and C/D/E. However, the number of riders are currently very low and the organisers really would like to see more local riders racing.
Many of our Outer Ring riders have used Angmering to great success in developing their skills, confidence and fitness before moving on to Regional and National racing and we cannot recommend these races highly enough.
Entry is on the day, and for details of the next race on British Cycling below:
Well done to all our Inner Ring riders who took part in the distance challenge on Saturday. It’s still early in the year but a great opportunity to test fitness, gearing and pacing skills.
Many of our riders have moved up age categories to u10 and U12s this year which meant more laps and it was great to see the effort and determination they all showed.
We’ll run two more distance challenges – one in the summer and autumn for the riders to see how they’ve improved their times during the year.
The results are on the link below :
Also thank you to the parents, coaches for counting laps and outer ring helpers Rahul and Adam for assisting with the hill climb challenge.
We are excited to announce that PPYCC are hosting an evening of Spring In The Park races at Cyclopark on Friday 11th May. This is part of a 10 week Friday night youth race series that many of our riders have competed in previous years.
Races are for boys and girls from u8 – u16. Sign-on and gear check open 1 hour before the races commence :
Age Race Time Duration
u8s 18:30 10 mins
u10s 18:45 15 mins
u12s 19:10 20 mins
u14s 19:40 25 mins
u16s 20:15 30 mins
For the event to run we really need your support : 1 volunteer for sign on, 1 volunteer for gear check and 4 circuit marshals. The more volunteers we have the better so that people can be rotated out and enjoy watching the racing. Please drop me an email at email@example.com if you can help. No prior experience necessary for marshalling or sign on.
The event details are on British Cycling event website:
… but entry and payment are on the day of the race.
When you arrive you’ll need your British Cycling licence for sign on and will then be gear checked. After this riders are provided with a timing chip for their bike which provides lap times and overall finishing positions. You’ll then have time to relax and warm up on the top circuit or rollers before the races start.
For those that haven’t been before the circuit and facilities are excellent. The cafe will be open for refreshments and we’ve got our fingers crossed for a warm sunny evening. We really hope see as many of our riders competing as possible so please support this event. There is also a skate park that the children are free to use before and after their race.
You don’t need to wait until 11th May though, the first evening of Spring In The Park races is Friday 27th April, with sign-on and race times as above.
British Cycling are hosting an advanced holiday cluster track session at Herne Hil next Thursday 5th April 11am – 4pm for Youth A and B riders with race experience.

Last week saw the final round of the London Youth Track League at Lee Valley Velodrome. The fortnightly series commences in October and comprises of 4 races per age group each week which are hotly contested by the best riders from around London and the South East.
10 boys from the club competed in the different youth age groups and we are very proud of the skills, determination and improved performances they’ve shown throughout the series. Next season it would be fantastic to see some of our female youth riders competing as well !
Final results and tables available using the link below …
Please see below update from Luke Anderson our British Cycling regional development manager.
Riders and Coaches,
Thanks for taking part in our Track and Road clusters this winter.
All the winter clusters are finishing up this week or next, after that we pause for summer when I hope most of you will be out racing and riding in the warm sunshine (it’s on the way I promise!) Instead of the Sunday morning track clusters the Go-Ride coaches help support and coach at Lee Valley running the Track After School Club on Mondays – suitable for newer and younger riders, and the Race Ready Youth Track session on Thursdays, suitable for racing level riders: https://www.visitleevalley.org.uk/en/content/cms/london2012/velo-park/youth-activities/
They will also run track cluster sessions during the school holidays at both Lee Valley and Herne Hill Velodrome. These sessions will run every school holiday until the Sunday morning Lee Valley track clusters restart in September:
Russell will be running the Lee Valley holiday clusters – Road on April 4th and Track on April 11th. Book here: https://www.visitleevalley.org.uk/en/content/cms/london2012/velo-park/youth-activities/#schoolholiday. To ride the track session you will need a Lee Valley membership account that has you logged at stage 2 accreditation or above. We don’t generally let Lee Valley know riders have passed accreditation stages until they’re completed all 4, so if you’re part way though, make sure you’ve created a free Lee Valley account (https://www.visitleevalley.org.uk/en/content/cms/london2012/velo-park/lee-valley-velopark-membership/), then email me with your Lee Valley membership number so I can ask for your records to be updated.
Dave will be running the Herne Hill advanced holiday sessions on 5th and 12th April. No accreditation required, just make sure riders are youth B and above and at a racing level. Book here: http://www.hernehillvelodrome.com/holidayclub/
There will also be future holiday clusters at Redbridge and Cyclopark – follow our various regional social media accounts for updates:
Hope to see you at a session soon!!
You are receiving this email because you have ridden a road or track cluster with us previous. Please reply if you want to be removed from the mailing list.

We have opened a twitter account for PPYCC to expand our ways of communicating with members and parents.
The PPYCC twitter account is @prestonparkycc.
Posts from the website will begin posting to twitter and we’ll also tweet specific news in twitter and already following British Cycling and other clubs in our region.
With Spring trying to arrive (ignoring the weather forecast for this coming weekend !) there are lots of racing opportunities coming up for those new to racing through to Regional and National events.
The event calendar has been updated on the club website but the entries and definitive entry information are via British Cycling website which includes timing and location details.
If you’re new to racing or not sure how to get started please don’t be daunted and speak to one of our coaches at the Saturday club sessions who will be more than happy to help with advice.
Club Sessions Saturday 17th March – please keep an eye on the weather forecast for this Saturday. We’ll make a decision Friday night or very early Saturday morning if the sessions are going to run. If the sessions do run it will be bitterly cold. Please ensure riders are all appropriately dressed for winter conditions and have a drink and snacks.
Our friends at LVYCC have set up shortcut links to events on the British Cycling website. The idea is to make it easier to access the BC website to suitable races. There is an advantage of using the BC website because it is fully up-to-date with the latest events and makes entering races easier.
The links have been divided up into age and cycling discipline. Each link covers a search of all 2018 events in the Eastern, Southeast, Southeastern and Central regions – you can search further afield and adjust the date range via the filters which they will see on the above links once they reach the British Cycling website.
