South East Go-Race Team Finals Report

Yesterday Cyclopark hosted the South Sast Regional Go-Race Team Final organised by the British Cycling regional team. All the riders from ten teams competed over four races – time trial, skills race and sprint eliminator over a range of terrains.

Our team did really well and finished 3rd in the Skills race which is a great reflection of the high level of bike handling skills our riders have. Additionally, Xavier finished 3rd in the group 2 sprint eliminator. After thrills and more than a few spills and incidents ( hope your’re not too sore today Oscar ! ) our team finished 7th overall. This is a great result given the mechanicals and crashes the team suffered.

Well done William, Jake, Aidan, Xavier, Oscar, Luke, Raphael, George and Alex you should all be very proud of your performances on parcour quite different to what we’re used to.

Inner Ring Sat 16th

Tomorrow mornings Inner Ring session will focus on co-ordination skills.

It’s forecast to be cool, 10-11 degrees, tomorrow morning so please dress appropriately. Also please can parents and riders check that tires are inflated correctly and bikes have been M-checked to avoid any delays to starting the session.

Two hoodies, purple and blue were left on the grass last week. I’ll bring these with me in the morning.

Distance Challenge Results

Firstly, thank you to the coaches and parents who helped with the distance challenge on Saturday and of course well done to all the riders who took part, many for the first time.

I’d also like to recognise the supportive spirit shown by Hayden and William who interrupted their own distance challenge with 15 of their 18 laps completed to help Skeff who had touched wheels and crashed. Well done boys and we knocked 1 minute off your time to allow for this.

Please see below link to the distance challenge results for 2017 and hopefully we’ll have time to run a final distance challenge before the end of the year.

Following in from last weeks time trial tomorrow and the next few Saturday’s we will be working on developing your racing skills.

Tomorrow’s training will be on road bikes for both Inner and Outer Ring. The weather forecast is dry but it is still cold in the mornings so please dress appropriately.

Good luck to all the PPYCC riders competing this weekend in the first of the Regional qualifiers for the British Cycling National Youth Track Championships. We’ll have news of the results next week.

Time Trial Distance Challenge Results 15/04/2017

Well done to all those riders who took part in todays time trial. Known as the race of truth, time trialling against the clock is a difficult skill to master and a tough challenge as it requires you to ride on the limit for the entire event. We’ll try to run another time trial before the end of the season so that you can measure your improvement.

Sat 15th April, Inner and Outer Ring Distance Challenge Time Trial

This coming Saturday 15th April the Inner and Outer Ring sessions will be run as a Distance Challenge Time Trial rather than the usual coached session.

Updated: to clarify the time trial is on road bikes for both Inner and Outer Ring.

The riders will pit themselves against the clock rather than racing against one another. Riders will set off individually at 10 second intervals within their age groups. We’ll record the time taken to complete their laps and publish the results. We hope to repeat this again before the end of the season for riders to see how their times have improved.

Riders will be given a race number at sign on to record their laps and time. The number will need to be pinned on the bottom left of their tops and returned at the end of the session.

Age groups and laps are below. Please could you check which age group your child is in to help speed up sign-on.

U8 born 2009 onwards – 6 laps
U10 born 2008 and 2007 – 12 laps
U12 born 2006 and 2005 – 18 laps
U14 born 2004 and 2003 – 24 laps
U16 born 2002 and 2001 – 30 laps

We’ll also run some Sumo games and a hill
climb challenge for the Inner Ring riders before and after their distance challenge.

We’d greatly appreciate as much assistance as possible from parents to help start riders and count laps.

Please remember to check your child’s bike and helmet before arriving at the track.
