Track cycling in the Outer Ring and track accreditation

Finally the weather is giving us a glimpse of spring….and the track season at Preston Park, organised by Sussex Cycle Race League, is due to begin in 2 weeks on 18th April , more information at their website

The regional rounds of the British Cycling Youth Track Omniums are also due to start, PPYCC sits in the South Region, with our Omnium to be held on 13th May, and the first in the group is coming up on 15th April at Portsmouth.

For PPYCC sessions, the Outer Ring will also begin their track season (always with the proviso of weather conditions) from this Saturday, 7th April. The club website calender has been updated to show each week whether riders should expect track bike, or the occasional road bike, sessions, allowing riders to plan ahead for each weekend session.  However, if the conditions are very damp or wet, this will preclude track bikes and an update will be posted on the website prior to the session, so please check for the latest information before leaving for the session each week!

For riders who are new to track cycling, PPYCC will be incorporating accreditation sessions within the Outer Ring, these are open to all Inner and Outer Ring riders who would like to gain experience and skill on a track bike, and accreditation is imperative prior to racing on a track bike at Preston Park. The 1st accreditation session will run this weekend, for riders who require a track bike, please arrive early to ensure you are able to have a correctly sized bike and are therefore able to start the session on time at 10.30am

We look forward to seeing you at the track, please email me if you have any further questions regarding track riding.

After the success of last years trip we will be returning to Gumber Bothy for a mid- summer bunkbarn camping trip on the 21st July

This is very much a social, family orientated event with cycling thrown in.

Gumber Bothy, up on the South Downs near Bignor, is a fantastic place to spend the night and we have been lucky enough to secure exclusive access for PPYCC.

PPYCC Regional Omnium, calling all riders and volunteers!

PPYCC are once again hosting a round of the National Youth Omnium on Sunday 13th May.

Even if you are not entering the National Series you can still enter this one-day event. We have always had a great turnout of club members, across all age groups, enter this event, and is a brilliant opportunity for riders to gain racing experience at regional level.

Only U14 and U16 count towards the points series, so U8, U10 and U12 are just for fun, which always makes it a relaxed and enjoyable day’s racing.

For those of you not familiar with the Omnium, think of it as the decathlon of track cycling. There are five different events – Time Trial, Elimination Race, Scratch Race, Sprint and Points Race. Points are awarded for each race and totalled up at the end. There are five age categories, with separate races (and prizes!) for boys and girls. Under 8’s boys and girls will be combined into one category.

All races must be on an approved fixed wheel bike, so some previous experience of track riding is required.
Entry details can be found here
Please also feel free to discuss with our coaches at a Saturday session for more insight into, and advice on, the event

As always, this event could not run without the tremendous support of all our volunteers. If you feel that you would be able to give some time to support the club on the day, please contact our Omnium Event Organiser, Paul Wilson, No experience, just enthusiasm, required!!

PPYCC Riders at London Youth Track League Final Results 2018

Last week saw the final round of the London Youth Track League at Lee Valley Velodrome. The fortnightly series commences in October and comprises of 4 races per age group each week which are hotly contested by the best riders from around London and the South East.

10 boys from the club competed in the different youth age groups and we are very proud of the skills, determination and improved performances they’ve shown throughout the series. Next season it would be fantastic to see some of our female youth riders competing as well !

British Cycling SE Region Road and Track Cluster Sessions

Please see below update from Luke Anderson our British Cycling regional development manager.

Riders and Coaches,

Thanks for taking part in our Track and Road clusters this winter.

All the winter clusters are finishing up this week or next, after that we pause for summer when I hope most of you will be out racing and riding in the warm sunshine (it’s on the way I promise!) Instead of the Sunday morning track clusters the Go-Ride coaches help support and coach at Lee Valley running the Track After School Club on Mondays – suitable for newer and younger riders, and the Race Ready Youth Track session on Thursdays, suitable for racing level riders:

They will also run track cluster sessions during the school holidays at both Lee Valley and Herne Hill Velodrome. These sessions will run every school holiday until the Sunday morning Lee Valley track clusters restart in September:

Russell will be running the Lee Valley holiday clusters – Road on April 4th and Track on April 11th. Book here: To ride the track session you will need a Lee Valley membership account that has you logged at stage 2 accreditation or above. We don’t generally let Lee Valley know riders have passed accreditation stages until they’re completed all 4, so if you’re part way though, make sure you’ve created a free Lee Valley account (, then email me with your Lee Valley membership number so I can ask for your records to be updated.

Dave will be running the Herne Hill advanced holiday sessions on 5th and 12th April. No accreditation required, just make sure riders are youth B and above and at a racing level. Book here:

There will also be future holiday clusters at Redbridge and Cyclopark – follow our various regional social media accounts for updates:

Hope to see you at a session soon!!

You are receiving this email because you have ridden a road or track cluster with us previous. Please reply if you want to be removed from the mailing list.

Kind Regards,

Regional Development Manager | South East
