PPYCC Cross race review

Last Sunday PPYCC ran their annual round of the London Cycle-Cross League cyclo-cross race. As well as the obvious excitement of the racing it was a great day for many other reasons. A day of uninterrupted sunshine saw a host of club volunteers turning up to set up the cross course at Happy Valley in Woodingdean from 08.00 in the morning. The subsequent rota had over 30 people [too many to mention], some staying until the close at 5pm, marshalling, signing on, covering first aid, judging and catering. The catering and the part of the entry fees that to to the club are usually a substantial part of our annual fund raising and this year was no different.

We were particularly pleased to see 3 of our riders make it to the podium both Lukas Nerurkar and Joseph Martin in the Under 14s after a two way battle behind the first placed rider Max Lawson of Herne Hill YCC. Joseph had eeked out a substantial lead only to crash on one of the descents allowing Lukas to bridge the gap. There battle ended in a sprint at the end of their race with Lukas just pipping Joseph. The other rider making the podium was Isaac Wright in the Junior section. Isaac rode very strongly to stay near the front of a group of 60 riders and finished as 3rd Junior.

Photos and videos of the event can be seen on the London Cycle-Cross League website.
