Winning race report

After a great second place in Friday night’s TT, [see our previous report] Joseph Martin went into Saturday’s triathlon event at Eton Dorney with lots of confidence on the bike. With 80 athletes competing, other than the national champs, this is the biggest event in the youth triathlon calendar, with kids from all over the UK vying for a spot on their regional team. Joseph needed to come in the top 4 or 5 to guarantee a south-east spot.
Coming 13th out of the water, with 2 South East team mates they worked hard together to make it up to the lead group by the end of the first bike lap,  dropping most of the rest of the field. A group of 9 riders came into the run transition together; although Joseph couldn’t find his race shoes loosing ten seconds on the top 8! Not panicking, Joseph motored over the next 2.5km out of view of the spectators, however when he reappeared he had moved into first place!  He held on to this position, despite being pressed from behind, to win by 3 seconds and is now thrilled that he has guaranteed his place in the nationals in September for the third year in a row.
Congratulations to Joseph from PPYCC
