It’s time for Track! SCRL is back

Sussex Cycle Racing League (SCRL) is returning on Wednesday 22nd April, with 14 weeks of high quality racing for all abilities across the summer.

We are especially excited this year, given how many of our younger riders have been enthusiastically learning track bike skills (riding and racing a fixed wheel bike) to get accredited.

Well done to Jake, Clay, Zack, Tianyi, Gustav, Gem, Felix, Lucy, Cillian, Louie, Edward and Theo who all passed track accredditation on Saturday.

There will be a further accreditation sessions later in the season for those who missed out. Please speak to a coach if this is of interest. Don’t worry about missing the first few weeks of the league if you still need to complete accreditation, you can start at any point between April and August!

Each week starts at 6:00, with registration and warm-up, with the racing starting at 6:30. Youth riders will usually race three or four races, depending on the program. These will be a in a mixture of race formats, such as scratch, elimination or points. PPYCC coaches will be present to give advice if needed.

On some weeks last year, we had 20 or more riders from PPYCC racing, which was great to see. Let’s try and break some particpation records in 2026!

How to register for SCRL

You need to register for the season on the SCRL website. There is new system this year, so you will need to do this even if you have entered in previous years. Only do this if you have passed track accreditation. The SCRL team have access to the PPYCC Accreditation list so when you register for SCRL, they will check for your name on our list.

Once registered for the season you then just register in advance each week by logging on to the system. You can enter up to early afternoon on the day of the racing.

Please follow the instructions at http://scrl.co.uk/register/

Borrowing track bikes

PPYCC has track bikes in three wheel sizes: 24 inch, 650C (26 inches) and 700C (27 inches). We have plenty of 650C and 700C bikes so once you have completed accreditation, if you are planning to race SCRL regularly then you can take a bike home for the season which will both save time with bike fits each week. We only have a few 24 inch bikes though, so these need to be kept at the track.

As usual, no charge applies for bike loans but you are responsible for general maintenance of the bike and keeping it in good working order, replacing consumables like bar tape and tyres when needed.

Volunteer while cheering on your rider

SCRL relies on volunteers to keep running and you do not need any cycling knowledge at all for key roles such as marshalling. Please keep the league alive by helping out where you can, as if not enough people volunteer then racing will get cancelled that week.
