We are arranging a trip to the famous Gent 6 Day Racing event and the World Cup Cyclocross race that is being held at the classic venue of Koksijde. Both are in Belgium and both are very accessible from Calais.
This will be an exciting over night trip, leaving early on Saturday morning, 22nd November and returning early evening on the Sunday, 23rd November.
We are planning to hire a coach (including tunnel) that will take 30 people, book rooms at the Holiday Inn in Gent, and purchase tickets for the Velodrome for the evening session. We will be able to gain entry on the gate for the Cyclocross race on the day.
We could then also probably squeeze in a trip to the Menin Gate in Ypres on the way home for some cultural perspective (it’s worth seeing).
It sounds like a lot of travelling, but it isn’t. Koksijde is about an hour from Calais (50km) and the Koksijde to Gent journey (110km) takes around 1.5 hours. We think the total cost, depending on how many people wish to go, will be around £100 per person based upon two people sharing a room (the assumption being these would be family groups or pairs).
Roughly speaking the pricing is based upon the following:
- Coach per person: £50.00
- Entry to Cyclcross: €15.00 (approx £12.00)
- Entry to Gent Velodrome: €20 (approx £15.00)
- Holiday Inn (room sleeps 2, some sleep 3, including breakfast):€69.00 (approx £54.00) for the room (+€2.50 per person)

I took club members, Freddie and Frank Newman, last year and they throughly enjoyed it. One of the highlights being that we stood in the queue behind, the great, Eddie Merckx on the way in to the Gent Velodrome on the Saturday night!.
