Jack Algar – End2End – World Scout Jamboree Japan 2015

My name is Jack Algar and I am from Griffin Explorer Scouts, in the Petworth & Pulborough District, West Sussex. I have been selected to represent my district, county and the UK, at the 23rd World Scout Jamboree Japan, 2015.

As part of my fundraising for the World Scout Jamboree, I am planning to cycle the End2End (Land’s End to John O’Groats) challenge this July. I will be cycling approximately 1100 miles over 13 days, carrying all my own gear. I am planning a route away from the main roads, which will include 3 countries & 6 National Parks staying in youth hostels and B&B’s cycling on average, 84 miles a day. Another part of the challenge will be getting my Dad up all the hills as he will also be joining me.

To enable me to attend, I have to raise £3000. Part of the money raised is used to help Scouts from developing countries to also attend the Jamboree. The Jamboree is held every 4 years in a different country and is attended by 30,000 Scouts worldwide. The Jamboree will be a life changing experience as it will allow me to gain a variety of life skills. The theme of the Jamboree is “WA: a Spirit of Unity.” It represents the very essence of Japan, and it also represents Japan itself. Scouts gathered from all over the world will think about global issues such as peace, and reflect upon our lives through various programmes to encourage us through our personal development.
